Summer School as School
July 16 – August 2, 2018
Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina is pleased to announce the presentation “Teaching Theory to Art Students” by Sezgin Boynik, part of Summer School as School 2018 Public Program.
The starting point of this lecture will be the work of Kazimir Malevich during Unovis period at Vitebsk (1919-1921) and the concept of "additional element" which he proposed as a theoretical compendium to his educational practice. This will be followed by analysing Art & Language's understanding of collective learning and definition of conceptual art practice as a social activity of schooling outside of institutions. By connecting two radical artistic positions, made in the twenties and in the seventies. The presentation will conclude with the theses on the current status of theory and learning in contemporary art. The overall idea of the lecture is to criticize the subordination of artistic practice to the established knowledge productions, and instead to argue for the singular theoretical concepts that are emerging from the art practice itself.
