Course Description
Art museums go beyond traditional definitions and approaches in architecture. They hold a special place within cities, both physically and socioeconomically. This course aims to explore how art museums act as a connection between the city and art itself. It investigates various perspectives on the relationship between cities and art museums: As carriers of civic and cultural values that are significant for the city, the country, or the world, therefore, relevant in relation to the city's political life. Secondly, art museums serve as central components of cultural clusters or quarters, thus contributing to the creative economy and tourism. Additionally, they become architectural landmarks and play a vital role in urban regeneration plans. Often, existing spaces, such as abandoned industrial areas or existing public buildings, are transformed into art museums, preserving their original features. This adaptability has led to the widespread proliferation of art museums worldwide.
Throughout the course, students will explore different perspectives and typology examples and approaches for an future art museum, while viewing it as an asset that can shape the future of a city. The case study will focus on the future museum of contemporary art, planned to be funded in Prishtina.
