Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Pristina opens the call for the first edition of the Open Call for Curatorial Research Projects - KPHK part of the program "Empowerment of Cultural Engagement and Artistic Growth in Kosovo - FAKRRA".

The program "Strengthening Cultural Engagement and Artistic Growth in Kosovo - FAKRRA" is a programmatic intervention of the institution that is based on continuous surveys and research of the current circumstances in independent institutions, the scene of art and culture in Kosovo and developments in public policies and public institutions, and institutions part of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Current developments in society and in art and culture in Kosovo have shown the critical need for strong independent institutions as a space untouched by party influence, and continuous support for free artistic creativity and free thought, where the created space supports the production of artistic independence and creates long-term commitment that serves the rise and development of art and culture, the free public sphere and the free social and artistic environment.

The first edition of the Competition for Curatorial Research Projects - KPHK takes place in a context in which public institutions of higher education in Kosovo lack a branch of curatorial studies as well as a branch of art history studies, which results in the lack of the professional preparation of implementers of public policies and curatorial projects, but also the lack of artistic and social criticism.

The first edition of the Competition for Curatorial Research Projects - KPHK, is designed as an intervention and opportunity for young curators, artists, young professionals, university or graduate students in the country and diaspora, who develop research and curatorial capacities through mentoring and education, and create practical experience in a specific field of work at the Station - Center for Contemporary Art Pristina.

KPKH is designed to support the selected proposal with institutional capacity for the development of the research project and curatorial exhibition, to support production and public promotion, to invest and raise the quality of new curatorial and artistic creativity; emphasizing the great influence of independent art and culture as an important component of democratic social development.

The selected project bearer will have the opportunity to create a new institutional network, to connect and interact with other institutions in the country and abroad.

With the First Edition of KPHK, Station - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina to identify and develop 1 curatorial research project. The project may involve collaboration with one or more artists from the country and diaspora, and foreign artists. The holder of the selected project will win a curatorial scholarship through which he will develop the project while working with the team of Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina, for 3 to 4 months during the year 2024.

The application must contain a biography of the applicant, the project proposal that must include technical information about the project, the proposal for the architecture of the exhibition, and the curatorial declaration, or the curatorial essay of 500 to 800 words.

Deadline for the Open Call: February 23, 2024.

The selected curatorial project will be developed and can be realized as part of the annual program of Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art Pristina for the year 2025. The developed exhibition can be organized in the Boxing Club in Prishtina, a prestigious exhibition space managed by Stacion - Center for Contemporary Art, Pristina.
